Job Summary and Qualifications
The role of the Facility Chief Medical Officer (CMO) ensures high-quality, patient-centered care by leading clinical and quality initiatives that support the provision of consistent clinical performance and practice standards across the hospital. The CMO provides senior-level leadership to infection control, risk management, safety, and medical staff credentialing functions, ensuring collaboration and coordination among all stakeholders. The CMO facilitates the analysis of quality performance and prioritizes improvement opportunities, consulting on issues involving physicians. The CMO also contributes to hospital strategy and service line development to ensure quality management and promote an optimal patient experience.
What you will do in this role :
- Lead clinical performance expectations supporting consistent clinical standards to ensure superior outcomes and patient experience.
- Collaborate with Hospital CMOs, CEOs, medical staff, and Boards of Directors to improve hospital medical staff effectiveness.
- Partner with medical staff and hospital management, facilitating teamwork and shared goals. Represent medical staff viewpoints to management and relay management viewpoints to medical staff, establishing mutually beneficial relationships.
- Provide clinical support and consultation on cost-effective resource management, sharing reports and recommendations to reduce variable costs while maintaining clinical effectiveness.
- Create a data-driven environment for quality and cost improvement, developing systems to review resource utilization and measure care outcomes.
- Serve as a liaison between HCA physicians and facility/corporate clinical services.
- Establish and maintain programs to orient and develop management expertise among medical staff leaders, overseeing medical education programs.
- Lead educational sessions and ongoing in-service programs on clinical resource management, standards, utilization, and quality improvement, in collaboration with clinical leadership.
- Form regional physician advisory panels to provide feedback to senior management and serve as a liaison between committees and leadership.
- Act as spokesperson to explain and promote clinical initiatives to physicians and hospital staff.
- Collaborate daily with other facility and corporate CMOs.
- Educate physicians on HCA clinical technologies.
- Work with supply chain on formulary and supply opportunities.
- Develop and monitor policies for disruptive and impaired physicians, and develop intervention programs.
- Recommend revisions to hospital policies related to medical staff affairs.
- Consult on physician credentialing, utilization, and quality profiling; participate in peer review committees.
- Evaluate new medical technologies and programs for relevance and impact.
