Job description

CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER

We're seeking a Chief Marketing Officer to lead Pavilion's marketing function and drive growth across new membership bookings, renewals, and new products. This person will oversee product marketing, lifecycle marketing, performance marketing, digital and web experience (brand & content), and sales enablement, including the team responsible for direct outreach and final-stage conversion.

Pavilion serves GTM professionals globally through membership, education, events, and community. Our primary commercial measure is bookings: the cash a customer pays after discounts, whether for a new membership or a renewal.

We need an experienced, tenured marketer who can set a clear strategy, make sound investment decisions, and build a team that takes ownership of results. As a member of executive leadership, the CMO will help determine business priorities and hold peers accountable for the decisions and commitments that support them. You should bring direct experience building acquisition and lifecycle programs, the judgment to challenge agency recommendations, and practical experience using AI to improve marketing team efficiency and performance. The ability to jump into execution to support a lean team as needed will be imperative.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Leadership with Player-Coach Mentality
  • Translate business goals into marketing priorities, initiatives, metrics, and a resourcing plan. Work with executive leadership to agree which offerings and audiences take priority.
  • Hold executive peers accountable for agreed goals and commitments. Make dependencies visible, challenge conflicting requests, and secure decisions when priorities exceed the team's capacity.
  • Build confidence and motivation within the team through clear direction, realistic workloads, useful feedback, and recognition of results. Create an environment where a best-in-class marketing team can propose ideas and question assumptions.
  • Develop team leaders across product marketing, lifecycle, performance marketing, and sales enablement. Set responsibilities and recommend hiring or agency support based on business needs.
  • Establish a regular review of bookings/other performance with leadership,Finance, and RevOps. Maintain a shared definition of bookings and dashboards that distinguish cash collected from pipeline or unpaid commitments.
  • Expertly weave in and out of strategic leadership and pushing things forward. Pavilion is at a stage where the player-coach mindset is critical; it’s not enough to simply know who to ideally hire, our leadership team must be able to jump in and get the job done if needed as well.
Growth Oversight
  • Own the marketing plan and budget against agreed targets, with clear contributions from new member acquisition, renewals, and B2B efforts.
  • Lead performance marketing across paid media, SEO and AEO, and event acquisition. Evaluate strategy and results with the expertise of someone who has built and run these programs directly.
  • Allocate spend based on cash bookings, acquisition cost, retention, and payback. Assess how pricing and discounts affect conversion and the value of each booking.
  • Test new channels to reach GTM professionals globally, with clear criteria for expanding, revising, or stopping an investment against a clear geographic strategy that aligns with our Chapter model delivery.
AI and Marketing Operations
  • Set priorities for AI agents and automated workflows in areas such as content production, segmentation, reporting, and lead scoring.
  • Bring specific examples of tools or workflows you have built or deployed and the measurable effect on cost, output, or performance.
  • Equip the team to use these tools responsibly, with clear ownership and review of customer-facing work. Measure whether adoption improves results or saves meaningful time.
Lifecycle Marketing
  • Lead lifecycle programs that improve activation, engagement, upgrades and renewal bookings, using member behavior and cohort performance to guide decisions.
  • Partner with MemberSuccess and Program Managers on onboarding, nurture, and milestone communications, with clear ownership of renewal outreach and member handoffs.
  • Build referral, upgradel and win-back programs, and use member feedback to address barriers to continued membership.
  • Own lead nurture series and various conversion-focused lifecycle flows to aid in demand capture when interested GTM leaders decide to convert on one of Pavilion’s various products
Product Marketing across B2C and B2B Offerings
  • Lead Product Marketing, including Growth Product (CRO) across Pavilion's offerings, defining audiences, positioning, and the reasons to buy or renew.
  • Clarify the relationship between membership, education, events, and team solutions so prospective customers understand what they receive and which offering fits their needs.
  • Develop go-to-market plans for courses that are sold both standalone and as part of membership, coordinating with Learn on launch timing and the transition into the member experience.
  • Own B2B marketing strategy and execution for Learn courses sold in bulk, including buyer messaging, demand generation, and support for team and company purchases. Align with Sales on pipeline quality and conversion to cash bookings.
Sales Enablement and Conversion
  • Lead the sales enablement team responsible for direct follow-up with prospective members in the final stage of their decision, including calls and other outreach that help them convert.
  • Set lead prioritization, follow-up standards, and handoffs between marketing and member-facing teams. Equip the team with relevant messaging, member proof points, and responses to common objections.
  • Manage Synapsa and 1Mind playbooks and responses to ensure consistency and quality control for the brand
  • Track conversion to paid bookings and use findings to improve campaigns and outreach. Agree pricing and discount guardrails with leadership and Finance.
Brand and Communications
  • Lead Pavilion's brand presence across web, social, events, and content, with consistent messaging and brand identity about the value of Pavilion’s offerings
  • Oversee thought leadership, PR, and storytelling grounded in member outcomes. Work with Learnand Community to surface member success and insights.
  • Establish a clear role for community content and executive thought leadership, including Sam's personal brand, within the broader marketing strategy.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Senior marketing leadership experience with responsibility for strategy, budgets, and commercial results, including meaningful experience in membership, community, or subscription businesses.
  • A record of setting priorities with executive leadership, challenging assumptions constructively, and securing the decisions and resources needed to deliver against goals.
  • Experience building team confidence and developing managers, with concrete examples of changes in team performance and ways of working.
  • Demonstrated performance marketing expertise, including direct experience building and running paid, SEO, or other acquisition programs and managing agencies or contractors.
  • Proven success in product marketing and lifecycle marketing, including positioning, launch planning, and renewal programs.
  • Strong content and communications judgment; fluency in marketing analytics, cash bookings, and budget management.
  • Practical experience building or deploying AI agents and marketing workflows, with the ability to explain the tools used and their measurable impact.

Preferred: Familiarity with event marketing and community storytelling in a global business serving GTM professionals.
