Job summary

Friedman Williams, a mid-size Pennsylvania law firm, seeks a Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer to lead firmwide marketing, BD strategy, and revenue initiatives. You will drive pipeline, pursuits, and key client relationships, and manage the marketing and BD department.

The role requires ten or more years in professional services marketing, strong leadership, and a proven ability to coordinate across offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Ten or more years in law firm or professional services marketing and business development, including direct accountability for business development and revenue outcomes rather than marketing/communications alone.
• Demonstrated experience running a competitive pitch and RFP function, including Go/No-Go discipline and win/loss analysis.
• Experience leading and developing a team, including performance management and role design.

Responsibilities

• Pitch, proposal, and pursuit management from intake to debrief with pricing coordination.
• Builds content libraries and processes to close gaps in matters and responses.
• Runs win/loss debriefs and feeds findings into positioning and pricing.
• Establishes turnaround standards and holds the department and partners to them.
• Launches client/industry strategies and maps relationships for cross-sell.
• Converts cross-sell opportunities into live pursuits with follow-up.
• Runs client listening program with executive visits and surveys on an ongoing cadence.
• Partners on client and office succession to transition relationships to the firm.
• Owns brand positioning, messaging, and thought leadership for multi-region growth.
• Sets content agenda, client alerts, bios with matters, and PR/media relations strategy.
• Oversees website, digital presence, search visibility, and bios.
• Drives awards strategy and internal communications.
• Recommends market playbooks by office type and briefs Marketing Committee.
• One-on-one BD coaching for partners and senior associates; builds BD plans.
• Runs BD training and onboarding for laterals.
• Equips practice group leaders to run their own BD cadence.
• Leads a five-person marketing/BD team with defined boundaries and guardrails.
• Manages events, sponsorships, and external agencies; maintains service standards.
• Assesses team structure and advocates for changes when needed.
• Owns the marketing/BD budget (~$1.05M) and the ROI framework for sponsorships.
• Manages CRM pipeline hygiene and monthly dashboards to the Management Committee.
