Job description

Elevate the Voice of Global Nursing Leadership with Sigma

Join an organization that doesn’t just talk about excellence—we set the global standard. As Sigma Nursing enters its second century of impact, we’re seeking a C hief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO) to lead the next chapter of bold innovation, global connection, and mission-driven storytelling. This is more than a senior-level role—it’s an opportunity to shape the voice of a century-strong organization at the forefront of nursing leadership and advocacy worldwide.

As a member of Sigma’s executive leadership team, the CMCO will serve as the strategic architect behind a reimagined brand identity, member engagement strategy, and global communications framework. This leader will champion cross-functional initiatives that unite our diverse community, inspire the next generation of nurses, and elevate Sigma’s impact on a global stage. We are looking for a passionate executive with deep association experience who believes marketing should ignite imagination, not just meet metrics—and who thrives at the intersection of heart, strategy, and innovation.

A Day in the Life

Your days will never be the same—but they will be meaningful. You’ll partner directly with the CEO, the Chief Volunteer and Engagement Officer (your executive-level “bestie”), and a committed leadership team to redefine how the world sees Sigma and the nursing profession. You’ll lead an in-house marketing and communications team through a period of transformational change , driving alignment across social media, newsletters, brand campaigns, merchandise, and PR initiatives. You’ll take the lead on signature events and global campaigns, including an elevated strategy for National Nurses Week , showcasing the authentic, diverse faces of nursing through powerful storytelling. You’ll own the voice of Sigma—building trust, credibility, and relevance with audiences ranging from new Gen Z nurses to long-standing legacy members to external partners across the globe.

This role calls for equal parts strategy, creativity, and operational leadership . You’ll be entrusted to evaluate and evolve our marketing tech stack, build an internal structure that empowers your team to thrive, and establish clear KPIs that reflect growth, innovation, and connection. Whether you’re leading a rebrand, launching a TikTok campaign, partnering with membership on Gen Z retention, or developing an op-ed for The New York Times, your work will have visibility, purpose, and global reach.

You Would Thrive in This Position If…

  • You’re an association marketing executive with a proven track record of leading bold, mission-driven communications in complex organizations.

  • You bring visionary leadership , grounded in strategy but inspired by possibility—able to honor a legacy while launching forward into innovation.

  • You’ve led successful team restructures or turnarounds , and know how to inspire, coach, and upskill existing staff while building capacity for the future.

  • You believe branding is more than design— it’s emotional storytelling, audience alignment, and authentic messaging that makes people feel something.

  • You’re ready to reposition an organization as a global thought leader , including PR strategy, op-eds, external partnerships, and high-profile campaigns.

  • You deeply understand non-dues revenue streams and can create dynamic marketing strategies for merchandise, events, certification programs, and publishing products.

  • You’re passionate about healthcare and equity , and unafraid to lead in complex DEIB conversations with heart, humility, and clarity.

  • You’re tech-forward, eager to lead Sigma’s digital transformation in email systems, campaign platforms, and engagement tools—while recognizing when to balance that with traditional outreach (like direct mail for new member invites).

  • You do n’t just tolerate change—you drive it . You see opportunity where others see barriers. You want to dream bigger and do meaningful work that matters.

Why Sigma?

At Sigma Nursing , we’re not only advancing the future of nursing—we’re reimagining what it means to lead with purpose, innovation, and impact. That commitment to excellence starts with our people. As the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, you’ll step into a mission-driven, globally respected organization that values your strategic voice and empowers you to lead lasting transformation.

We offer:

  • Exceptional benefits , including generous PTO, HSA contributions, comprehensive insurance, and a strong retirement match

  • A high-impact executive role where your strategic leadership directly influences global brand perception, member engagement, and organizational growth

  • A collaborative, fast-paced environment that encourages creativity, agility, and bold ideas

  • Work-life balance perks like summer half-day Fridays and a paid holiday closure at year’s end

  • The flexibility to work fully remote , with a strong and supportive team culture regardless of location

Additional Details

This is a fully remote position with occasional in-person presence requested—typically in alignment with monthly CEO visits to our Indianapolis headquarters or for organization-wide events. While location flexibility is supported, preference may be given to candidates based in or near Indianapolis for ease of collaboration.

This is not an entry-point executive role—we are seeking a seasoned, visionary association marketing leader with a proven ability to navigate complexity, inspire high-performing teams, and craft bold narratives that elevate mission and message. If you are energized by the opportunity to own a powerful brand, drive strategic innovation, and transform the way the world sees Sigma and the nursing profession, we invite you to bring your voice to our executive team.
