Job summary

Penn State University Libraries seeks a collaborative and engaged Head of Library Experience and Services at Associate or Full Rank to advance a culture of service quality, collaboration, and student success. This role leads a newly aligned portfolio across University Park Libraries spaces and branch locations, with on-site duties in State College, PA.

Qualifications

• MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent).
• Substantial experience in academic library public services including reference, service integration, space partnerships, accessibility, operational planning, and organizational change.
• Demonstrated supervisory and empathetic leadership and communication skills.
• Commitment to and experience with shared governance and faculty partnership.
• Demonstrated leadership fostering collaboration across diverse communities and supporting equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction for the Library Experience and Services portfolio and unify service cultures.
• Supervise and develop employees, managing service point managers, supervisors, and coordinators.
• Oversee service operations including scheduling, staffing models, and coverage planning.
• Drive improvement using assessment tools, user feedback, and service data to demonstrate impact.
• Coordinate with campus units and manage relationships with partners for building operations and integration.
• Manage budget and resources, including staffing and equipment planning.
• Ensure safety/compliance with university policies for library spaces.
• Represent the Libraries in governance and external committees.
