Job summary

Xcimer Energy is seeking a Director of Laser Engineering to lead the development, scaling, and industrialization of advanced laser systems in Denver. You will define technical direction for large-scale laser architectures and build a high-performing team focused on reliability and manufacturability.

The role requires 10+ years in industrial laser design, strong leadership, and senior cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in engineering, physics, or optics is required or preferred.
• 10+ years of experience designing and delivering industrial laser systems.
• Experience leading engineering teams or major technical programs.
• Experience scaling laser systems from R&D to production environments.
• Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills.
• US citizenship or eligible status required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Laser Engineering department, including hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and performance development.
• Define and own the technical roadmap for laser system development and industrial deployment.
• Oversee design, integration, testing, and commissioning of large-scale laser systems.
• Collaborate with experimental physics teams on design tradeoffs and results.
• Identify risks and opportunities in laser architectures and drive mitigations.
• Drive decision-making using data, modeling, and system-level analyses.
• Partner with optics, pulsed power, materials, controls, and manufacturing teams.
• Translate insights into robust, scalable, production-ready designs.
• Lead transition from prototypes to industrial-grade laser products.
• Establish design reviews, documentation standards, and quality expectations.
• Manage external vendors and suppliers for laser components.
• Support troubleshooting and corrective actions during development and operations.
• Align engineering priorities with company strategy and budgets.
