Job summary

Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) seeks a Chief Internal Auditor to lead all internal audit functions across CTA, Metra, Pace, and NITA with a focus on controls, compliance, and efficiency. The role reports to the NITA Board and has a five-year term with potential reappointment.

The ideal candidate will have a CPA or CIA, 10+ years in auditing, and 5+ years in supervision, with experience in federal/state grants and public-sector governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in auditing, accounting, finance, public administration, or related field required.
• CPA or CIA certification required.
• Over 10 years of progressively responsible auditing/financial analysis experience; supervisory experience of 5+ years.

Responsibilities

• Direct the internal audit functions across operational, financial, compliance, performance, IT, and special audits.
• Prepare audit reports, annual audit plan, and follow up on findings with remediation actions.
• Coordinate external audits and advisory with the Board and management.
