Job summary

Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) seeks a Chief Internal Auditor for the Legal and Administration department. The incumbent reports to the NITA Board and to the Executive Director, serving a five-year term with possible reappointment.

This role leads internal audits across NITA and the Service Boards (CTA, Metra, Pace) to ensure strong controls and regulatory compliance. NITA manages fares, service standards, capital planning and oversees operations across multiple counties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in auditing, accounting, finance or public administration is required.
• CPA or CIA certification is required/desirable.

Responsibilities

• Direct the internal audit functions and activities for the Authority and SBs.
• Prepare audit reports and assess program goals with recommendations.
• Develop and submit an annual audit plan for Board approval.
• Follow-up on audit findings and remedial actions.
• Coordinate external audits and respond to audit requests by management.
• Refer violations of ethics acts to appropriate authorities.
• Coordinate performance audits with state offices every five years.
• Execute required audits following government auditing standards.
