Mitchell Hamline School of Law is seeking to hire a full-time Chief Information Officer. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for planning, organization and direction of comprehensive information systems programs and services ensuring that the most current and cost-effective information technology is available for use on a School-wide basis. The School seeks a strategic, collaborative, and service-oriented leader to serve as the CIO.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning
- Provides vision, leadership, and coordination for technology for the School
- Prepares long- and short-term goals, objectives and controls of the unit including:
- Strategic planning
- Managing personnel
- Budgetary
- Technology resources
- Designs, develops, and communicates policies and procedures and ensures accuracy and compliance
- Manage and negotiate relationships, contracts (with VPFA approval) and services of information technology
- Manage a modern cyber-security program that incorporates latest techniques and information that addresses risks and threats
- Assures protection for information assets of the School through internal control, internal auditing, IT security, recovery procedures and assuring proper insurance coverage
Availability of technology
- Ensures prompt and effective delivery of technology resources
- Leverages the benefits of cloud-based computing and technology
- Ensures that IT infrastructure meets the needs of faculty, staff, and students
- Oversees the printing/duplicating services
Redundancies
- Develops IT personnel practices ensuring that there are built in redundancies to minimize single points of failure
- Develops a multi-year strategy to ensure optimal resource refreshment
- Documents and maintains procedures for each IT position
Accountability
- Ensures fiscal responsibility and accountability through coordination of budget planning for area including annual budgets, short- and long-term planning
- Reviews budget to actual financial activity on a monthly basis
- Maximizes investment dollars for information technology
- Ensures the School meets all Federal and State compliance requirements including GLBA, FERPA and HIPAA
- Deploys security tools to ensure safety and security of School data and the network from internal and external threats
- Ensures adequate documentation, data back-up, and disaster recovery/business continuity plans are in place for all systems
Leadership
- Provides strong leadership and develops team (directly and indirectly) through:
- Hiring practices
- Training
- Evaluating performance
- Supervising team members
- Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with all constituents
- Recruits, retains, develops, and evaluates a high-quality team
- Creates a culture of service excellence
- Support IT governance structure that the School receives the best value from the IT organization
- Establishes strategy thinking and planning
- Supports employee development skills, including mentoring, coaching, and problem solving
Customer service
- Creates and supports a continuously improving IT division
- Ensures timely response regarding IT issues and help desk tickets as per the SLA
- Acts as a resource for campus related to technology needs and purchases
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with various constituents to resolve issues and conflict.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience leading an information technology unit
- Superior attention to detail
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple demands
- Excellent organizational skills
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written at all levels of the organization
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or business-related area
- 5+ years of progressive experience in information technology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or relevant certificate (e.g., Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional)
- Experience in higher education
Salary Range: The anticipated compensation range for this position is $131,000 - $160,000 annually.
