Job summary

California Assisted Living Association (CALA) seeks a Senior Vice President of Government Affairs to lead policy, advocacy, and government affairs efforts in Sacramento. This role serves as CALA’s principal advocate, building relationships with legislators, staff, and state officials while guiding two policy staff and two contract lobbyists.

Responsibilities include developing policy positions, testifying before committees, and managing the Public Policy Committee.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum seven years’ advocacy and government affairs experience.
• Successful track record with California legislators, staff, and officials.
• Strong relationship, communication, and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Advocates for CALA’s members with state legislators and officials.
• Develops policy positions and strategies with policy teams.
• Analyzes proposed state legislation and assesses impact.
• Leads negotiations with elected officials and staff.
• Testifies before legislative committees and regulatory bodies.
• Coordinates with Governor’s office, agencies, and external stakeholders.
• Presents CALA positions in materials and briefings.
• Oversees Public Policy Committee and quarterly board reports.
• Directs contract lobbyists and grassroots advocacy programs.
• Represents CALA at political events and fundraisers.
