Blue Energy in Chevy Chase, MD, is seeking a Head of Government Affairs to lead engagement with policymakers at federal, state, and local levels and to help launch nuclear power projects.

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, this role collaborates closely with executives and legal, shapes strategic policy, and builds a transformative government affairs function to support Blue Energy’s growth in a fast-moving startup environment.

Qualifications

• 12+ years experience in government affairs or public policy.
• Established relationships with the Department of Energy, Congress, and FERC.
• Experience in the energy sector — nuclear, power generation, or large-scale infrastructure development.
• Proven track record leading state-level advocacy across multiple jurisdictions.
• Experience building and leading a government affairs function, including managing external lobbyists and consultants.
• Strong understanding of RTO/ISO market structures and FERC regulatory processes.

Responsibilities

• Advocate for Blue Energy’s business interests with policymakers and stakeholders.
• Stay ahead of federal, state, and local policy developments and energy market dynamics.
• Direct federal government strategy and relationships with agencies including DOE and Commerce.
• Manage relationships with Members of Congress and congressional staff.
• Shape policy positions and translate them into political outcomes that support the business.
• Direct state strategy and relationships to support nuclear and data-center offtake policies.
• Oversee community & international engagement on government affairs.
• Build relationships with key government stakeholders and executives for direct engagement.
• Develop a comprehensive government affairs strategy and manage a team plus external consultants.
• Anticipate opposition and craft strategies aligned with Blue Energy’s values.
• Collaborate with Commercial, Regulatory, Communications, and Legal teams.
• Operate with a startup mindset in a fast-growing environment.
