Job summary

Ohio State University seeks a FAA certificated Chief Flight Instructor to lead the Flight Education Division at University Airport. You will ensure instruction complies with federal rules, manage programs and faculty, supervise standardization, and drive innovative teaching and research in aviation education.

The role also involves budgeting, marketing support, hiring instructors, assigning duties, and evaluating performance to maintain high-quality flight training for diverse students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; advanced degrees desirable.
• FAA Commercial Pilot Certification with an instrument rating.
• Certified Flight Instructor Certification.
• 5 years of relevant experience; 8–12 years preferred.
• Aeronautical certificates to satisfy FAR Part 141.35 with extensive piloting/flight instruction.
• Ability to pursue FAA designated examiner status or progress toward certification; FAA Chief Flight Instructor.
• FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate, Airplane Single & Multi-Engine Land ratings, Instrument rating; FAA Flight Instructor Certificate, Instrument & Multi-Engine ratings.
• Demonstrated management and academic skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties of FAA certificated Chief Flight Instructor and administer the Flight Education Division; manage all division aspects.
• Ensure flight instruction complies with federal regulations and oversee flight education programs; supervise instructors and standardization checks.
• Develop and improve flight instruction programs; pursue innovative teaching methods and research ideas.
• Instruct advanced students; assist instructors with special students; coordinate classroom instruction with faculty; may provide instruction.
• Assist with budgeting and marketing; hire flight instructors, assign duties and evaluate performance.
