You will lead the accounting team, optimize WIP, revenue recognition, and treasury functions, while partnering with operations to align margins with contract terms and risk controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• MBA or active CPA / CCFP preferred.
• 10-15 years of progressive corporate finance leadership with 5+ years as CFO/VP Finance/Controller in commercial sub-contractor.
• ERP construction software expertise, e.g., Sage 100 Contractor, and master Excel knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly WIP reviews with Project Executives and Managers to audit billings and margins.
• Architect cash forecasts and manage liquidity across multi-project cycles.
• Audit contracts for risk and manage insurance programs and compliance.
• Direct accounting department, oversee A/P, A/R, and general ledger reconciliation.

Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a core executive leader, directing the overall financial strategy, heavy job costing structure, and fiscal operations of the commercial electrical contracting firm. This role requires a heavy construction accounting background, specialized knowledge of WIP (Work-in-Progress) accounting, AIA billing methodologies, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and a proven track record managing multi-million-dollar cash flow cycles tied to complex electrical projects, large-scale supply chains, and manpower scaling.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

1. 1. WIP & Job Cost Management

   • WIP Reporting: Lead monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reviews with Project Executives and Managers to audit over/under billings, estimated cost-at-completion, and contract margins.
   • Labor & Productivity Controls: Partner with operations to model labor burden rates, field productivity indexes, and local union/prevailing wage compliance strategies.
   • Change Order Controls: Implement and monitor rigorous internal controls tracking unapproved change orders, claims management, and schedule impact risk metrics.

2. 2. Cash Flow, Treasury & Capital Management

   • 13-Week Dynamic Cash Forecasting: Architect and maintain short- and long-term liquidity models designed around heavy upfront material procurement (e.g., switchgear, copper, generators) and delayed retainage releases.
   • Credit & Bonding Infrastructure: Secure, optimize, and expand banking relationships, multi-million-dollar lines of credit, and surety bonding capacity to back large-scale commercial bids.
   • Capital Expenditures (CapEx): Direct evaluation and financing strategies for capital assets, including fleet vehicles, heavy tools, prefabrication facilities, and specialized warehouse equipment.

3. 3. Contracts, Risk Management & Compliance

   • Contract Risk Review: Collaborate with legal to audit incoming prime contracts and subcontracts, isolating aggressive payment terms, indemnification hazards, and liquidated damage clauses.
   • Insurance Procurement: Direct and negotiate comprehensive commercial insurance packages (General Liability, Workers' Comp, Auto, Umbrella) and OCIP/CCIP wrapper programs.
   • Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Champion structural federal, state, and multi-jurisdictional tax strategies, specifically regarding multi-state operations, Nexus regulations, and R&D; tax credits for electricalsystem engineering.

4. 4. Corporate Strategy & Department Leadership

   • Executive Collaboration: Inform the CEO and Board on strategic corporate trajectory, target market entry, joint venture creation, and structural overhead recovery modeling.
   • Accounting Department Management: Lead, scale, and mentor the accounting department, overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, AIA Progress Billings, certified payroll compliance, and general ledger reconciliation.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) / Certified Construction Financial Professional (CCFP) credential highly preferred.

• Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive corporate finance leadership, with a mandatory minimum of 5 years serving as a CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller within a commercial sub-contractor environment (preferably electrical, mechanical, or general contracting).

• Technical Mastery: In-depth expertise in specialized ERP construction software (e.g., Sage 100 Contractor ) alongside master-level Excel knowledge.

• Core Knowledge: Absolute proficiency in percentage-of-completion accounting, structural job-costing logic, multi-tier lien waivers, prompt payment acts, and certified payroll tracking.
