Job description

Our client, a large multi-unit cannabis retailer in Michigan, is seeking an experienced strategic Chief Financial Officer to drive financial strategy and growth.

Retail finance leadership and M&A experience are essential; cannabis retail experience is a plus.

This individual will collaborate with the executive team to make decisions regarding the company's financial strategy, growth, and operations.

The client has a remote, home-based setup for its leaders but strongly prefers a Michigan-based CFO or someone located nearby. Regular travel throughout the Michigan market to work closely with the President/COO on a weekly basis is a non-negotiable for success.

Responsibilities:

1. Enhance, implement, and enforce policies and procedures to improve overall operations and effectiveness of the company.
2. Responsible for financial strategy, planning and analysis, reporting, audits, compliance, and banking relationships.
3. Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and trends.
4. Participate in developing the company's strategic plans as a senior leadership team member.
5. Evaluate and advise on the financial impact of long-term planning, new programs, strategies, and regulatory actions.
6. Offer strategic financial input and leadership on key decision-making issues.
7. Oversee accounting functions, accounts payable, and foster best practices across the company.
8. Manage assets and CAPEX allocations annually.
9. Oversee external audits and assist with compliance deliverables.
10. Advise on cost of capital and financial decision-making.
11. Support investor relations with data and reporting.

Required Qualifications:

• Successful career trajectory in finance with a focus on M&A.
• Experience in the retail industry; cannabis industry experience is a plus.
• Proven success in building finance teams from the top leadership position.
• Strong drive to effect positive change.
• Experience managing relationships with lenders and banks.
• Based in Michigan or nearby.
