Job description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) leads the company’s finance and accounting function, strengthening day-to-day operations and supporting the continued growth of a construction business. This is a fully onsite role with responsibility for financial reporting, accounting operations, and financial insight for company leaders.

During the first 6 to 12 months, the CFO will work closely with the accounting operation, understand current practices, and guide improvements while the department and organization continue to develop. The role will evolve toward broader strategic leadership while maintaining close oversight of the finance function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the finance and accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and construction accounting.
  • Provide hands‑on direction to the accounting operation, staying close to the details as the department and company structure evolve.
  • Oversee work‑in‑progress reporting, job costing, and other financial processes specific to construction.
  • Review accounting workflows, controls, and reports, then establish improvements that strengthen accuracy, consistency, and visibility.
  • Support the company’s transition to Vista and help ensure finance processes align with the system implementation.
  • Partner with company leaders to explain financial results, provide useful analysis, and inform business decisions.
  • Develop the accounting team and recommend an organizational structure suited to the company’s needs as it grows.
  • Guide change at a thoughtful pace, assessing the organization and preserving stability while improvements are made.
Qualifications
  • At least 10 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of work‑in‑progress reporting, job costing, and construction accounting.
  • Experience in asphalt, paving, road construction, or a closely related area is highly preferred.
  • A hands‑on leadership approach and the ability to work effectively at both the operational and detailed levels.
  • Experience improving accounting processes and financial systems.
  • Experience with Vista is a plus; familiarity with NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or another ERP platform is also valuable.
  • Change‑management skills, including the ability to assess an organization before making significant changes.
  • The ability and interest to build, develop, and lead an accounting organization.
