Our client is a highly respected, physician-owned orthopaedic organization seeking an accomplished Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization through its next phase of strategic growth, operational excellence, and continued clinical success.

The organization is a financially stable, well-established independent practice with a strong reputation for clinical quality, physician leadership, and patient care. The organization generates approximately $40 million in annual revenue and includes 17 physicians, 12 Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, and 250+ employees.

The organization operates four clinical locations and eight physical therapy locations, with a robust in-house physical therapy platform and a diversified ancillary services model that includes after-hours care, durable medical equipment (DME), and diagnostic X-ray services. The organization also maintains strong relationships with hospitals and surgery centers throughout Central Maryland.

This is a planned leadership succession and represents an exceptional opportunity for an experienced healthcare executive to assume leadership of a healthy, profitable organization with a strong foundation and meaningful opportunity for continued growth.

The successful candidate will partner closely with the Board of Directors and physician shareholders to preserve the organization's culture of clinical excellence while strengthening its infrastructure, expanding services, improving operational performance, and positioning the organization for long-term success.

The CEO will lead a seasoned administrative team, including the Director of Operations, Finance Director, HR Director, and Clinical Services Managers, while working collaboratively with physician leadership to establish priorities and execute the organization's long-term vision.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished healthcare operator who understands the unique dynamics of physician-owned organizations and can balance growth and financial performance with physician alignment, employee engagement, and exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor healthcare industry trends, reimbursement dynamics, competitive activity, and regulatory developments.
  • Position the organization for sustainable growth while preserving its independence, culture, and physician-led governance model.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the organization's financial performance.
  • Partner with the Finance Director and physician leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and capital allocation.
  • Drive revenue growth, expense management, productivity, and margin improvement.
  • Oversee revenue cycle performance and identify opportunities to improve collections, reimbursement, and financial efficiency.
  • Ensure physician compensation and incentive structures support organizational performance and physician alignment.
  • Provide the Board with transparent, timely, and actionable financial information.
Operational Excellence
  • Provide executive oversight of clinical operations, administration, human resources, information technology, billing/revenue cycle, compliance, facilities, and ancillary services.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators across patient access, patient satisfaction, provider productivity, staffing, revenue cycle, expenses, and profitability.
  • Build scalable operational infrastructure capable of supporting future growth.
  • Evaluate processes, systems, and technology to improve efficiency, communication, and patient experience.
  • Ensure appropriate regulatory, compliance, risk-management, and governance practices are maintained.
  • Partner with operational leaders to establish accountability and consistent execution across all locations.
  • Develop strong, collaborative relationships with physician shareholders and members of the medical staff.
  • Serve as a trusted business partner to physician leadership while maintaining appropriate organizational accountability.
  • Facilitate alignment between physician priorities and organizational financial and operational objectives.
  • Support physician recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning.
