Job Summary
The Chief Estimator will provide leadership to our estimating team company-wide and across multiple disciplines. They will develop new software and procedural solutions to ensure consistency and confidence in estimates and proposals. The role involves mentoring and supporting professionals on challenging projects.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality policies.
- Represent the company with high moral standards, following the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
- Support safety initiatives and core values.
- Monitor estimating activities and enforce proposal and contract policies.
- Oversee estimating efforts, manage team members, and ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Understand project scope, generate budgets, and coordinate bid meetings and walk downs.
- Guide on scope clarifications, project risks, and pricing.
- Develop and improve estimating processes, incorporating historical data.
- Collaborate with Sales, Project Managers, Engineering, and Management on bids.
- Maintain documentation supporting estimates.
- Conduct regular quality reviews of estimating work.
- Participate in constructability reviews and cost-saving discussions.
- Ensure estimates are detailed and organized to meet client and company needs.
- Ensure traceability of estimates to defining documents.
- Review and approve schedules, indirect costs, staffing, and equipment.
- Review project execution plans and cash flow considerations.
- Develop risk ranges and contingency allocations.
- Prioritize work across multiple projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 12+ years’ estimating experience, with 5+ years of management experience.
- Ability to visualize project outcomes from documents.
- Strong knowledge of estimating techniques, disciplines, and cost control.
- Experience estimating various project types and sizes.
- Ability to supervise and motivate a professional team.
- Excellent communication skills for presentations and reports.
- Understanding of operating processes in heavy industrial facilities.
- Technical skills and knowledge of estimate classifications.
- Self-motivated team player with a growth mindset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours occasionally.
