Job summary

Commence, headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA, seeks a Senior Chief Architect to own the target-state architecture for a CMS case-management program. You will lead decisions across cloud, data, security, and application layers and present at technical review boards.

In this remote-friendly role, you will mentor architects, drive ADR governance, and ensure compliance with HIPAA, NIST, and FedRAMP while shaping integration patterns with Pega or Salesforce and AWS-native services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IS, Engineering or related field.
• 12–15+ years of solution/enterprise architecture experience with leadership titles.
• Experience delivering on federal contracts; CMS experience preferred.
• Demonstrated architecture governance (ADR) on prior program.
• Cloud-native and API-driven design using AWS services.
• Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR/HL7) and BPM platforms (Pega or Salesforce).

Responsibilities

• Own target-state architecture across Cloud, data, security, and app layers.
• Serve as CMS-facing technical authority.
• Set ADR process and approve ADRs.
• Resolve architectural conflicts among architects.
• Define reusable solution patterns and architectural standards.
• Own data exchange strategy including FHIR, HL7, Direct Messaging, REST APIs, event-driven integration.
• Set integration strategy between case-management platform and data layer.
• Lead cloud-native direction with AWS, containerized, serverless.
• Define data ingestion, transformation, and metadata management strategies.
• Partner with Security Lead to embed HIPAA, NIST, FedRAMP.
• Provide binding architectural guidance to engineering teams; mitigate risk.
• Mentor senior staff and architects.
• Own program-level technical specifications and guidance.
