The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) is seeking a Chief Engineer I for the Veterans Home of Barstow. The role focuses on leading and coordinating operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, electrical and other mechanical systems to ensure reliable facility operations.
The position requires passing a Chief Engineer I examination, with a work schedule of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and an in-office telework arrangement.
$6,715.00 - $8,500.00 per Month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

This position is located in the Administration Department of the Veterans Home of Barstow. The Chief Engineer I is responsible to lead and work with others in operation, maintenance, and repair of the heating, air conditioning, and electrical plant and other mechanical and power equipment of the Veterans Home.
The applicant will need to take and pass an examination for Chief Engineer I to establish eligibility prior to the job offer.
Employees of CalVet will be required to follow state or county public health guidelines and requirements enacted in accordance with infectious disease prevention and control.
