Job summary

HHM Hospitality seeks a Chief Engineer for our Bloomington, IN property to lead maintenance, ensure guest comfort and safety, and manage preventive programs. You will supervise staff, coordinate vendor bids, and oversee small projects and life-safety systems to maintain 100% operational standards.

The role requires HVAC certification, strong leadership, and a proactive approach to sustainability and compliance. This position offers growth toward regional leadership within HHM.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or trade school coursework preferred.
• Previous supervisory engineer/maintenance experience required.
• HVAC certification required.
• Other certifications may be required based on local needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach maintenance team to meet brand standards.
• Manage bids, quotes, and contracts for 3rd party vendors.
• Oversee small projects and Property Improvement Plans (PIPs).
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Install and program televisions.
• Maintain PM records and test life safety systems.
• Ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Maintain exterior and curb appeal following EarthView guidelines.
• Prioritize guest satisfaction and safety.

Overview

Opportunity: Chief Engineer

Manage general and preventative maintenance functions to ensure guest service and sustainability standards are achieved and maintained throughout the hotel structure.

Your Growth Path

Area Chief Engineer – Regional Director of Engineering

Your Focus

• Leadership: Interview, select, train, schedule, coach, and support associates to ensure they perform in accordance with brand standards and HHM core values.
• Financial and Vendor Oversight: Manage and coordinate bids, quotes, and contracts for 3rd party vendors.
• Project Management: Oversee small projects or Property Improvement Plans (PIPs) and report on work progress.
• Technical Repairs: Perform and oversee diverse tasks including sheetrock repair, painting, furniture refinishing, and the replacement of electrical and plumbing fixtures.
• Equipment and Systems: Troubleshoot kitchen equipment and repair heating/cooling pumps. You will also install and program televisions.
• Preventative Maintenance: Maintain accurate records of PMs on all rooms and equipment; test and maintain life safety systems to ensure they are 100% operational.
• Compliance: Coordinate compliance of service contracts and ensure all work meets local, state, and Federal codes.
• Operations: Maintain the building exterior and curb appeal while following EarthView sustainability guidelines.
• Safety and Service: Practice safe work habits following MSDS and OSHA standards while working to increase guest satisfaction scores.

Your Background and Skills

• High School diploma and/or trade school coursework in a related field is preferred.
• Previous supervisory engineer/maintenance experience (or equivalent training) is required.
• HVAC certification is required.
• Other certifications may be required based on local needs.

Work Environment and Context

• Work schedule varies and may include working on holidays and weekends or alternate shifts.
• Requires standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending and reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling or crouching.
