Job summary

Hampton Inn & Suites Salinas is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee daily engineering operations, ensuring guest comfort, safety, and property integrity. You will lead preventive maintenance programs, manage equipment and facilities, and coordinate with vendors and hotel leadership on renovations.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, monitoring budgets, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring timely repairs to preserve high service standards at the Salinas property.

Qualifications

  • Experience in maintaining hotel facilities and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and coordinate with vendors.

Responsibilities

We provide a corporate culture that values teamwork, a strong work ethic, service to others, and personal balanceSUMMARY: The Chief Engineer oversees and coordinates daily operations of the engineering/maintenance departments to ensure total comfort, safety, and satisfaction of hotel guests and staff; maintains all equipment, buildings, and property in proper condition.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintains property including but not limited to guest rooms, public areas, and equipment through development and implementation of preventive maintenance program; ensures all maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely, cost-effective manner and according to all specificationsManages hotel’s physical operations including but not limited to refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, laundry machines, swimming pools, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, plumbing, water treatment, and electric systemsInterfaces with appropriate hotel staff/managers to receive information regarding maintenance needs; ensures timely response to requestsInterfaces with appropriate hotel staff/managers, engineers, and outside contractors to review and/or develop renovation and new construction plans; coordinates communication with and work of outside contractorsMonitors and maintains proper inventory levels; authorizes purchase orders for supplies and equipmentEnsures all fire and safety inspections are completed and any discrepancies corrected; ensures property is in compliance with all safety and sanitation policies, procedures, and regulationsSupervises and assists staff in maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings, and property as neededPossesses and maintains thorough knowledge of city and state building codes, OSHA requirements, and ADA laws; implements OSHA and ADA guidelines and programsPossesses and maintains thorough knowledge of ventilation/air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and other generally accepted maintenance skillsDevelops, implements, and monitors department budget; manages expenses within approved budget constraintsPrepares accurate and timely reports as requiredHires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops maintenance/engineering staff; manages schedules and workflowAssigns duties and monitors quality of work; assures staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and safety regulationsProvides day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; actively works to promote and recognize performanceKeeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actionsPerforms other related duties as assigned by managementSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Directly supervises employees within the department(s)Indirectly supervises employees within the department(s)Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable lawsResponsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees;
