Job summary

NGAS is seeking a senior technical leader to head a multi-disciplinary engineering team focused on expendable air-breathing weapons systems. You will oversee R&D programs, set technical direction, manage cross-unit integration, and interface with customers and government stakeholders.

The role requires deep experience in systems engineering, mission engineering, and risk management, with a track record of delivering on schedule and cost targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 16 years related professional/military experience
  • Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 14 years related professional/military experience
  • Ph.D. in a related STEM discipline and 12 years related professional/military experience
  • Experience integrating multiple engineering specialties
  • Active US Government Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation
  • Ability to obtain SAP and TS/SCI clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
  • Up to 25% travel required
  • Experience across multiple phases of the program lifecycle
  • Experience as a Chief Engineer or technical lead planning and executing technical design and integration tasks
  • Strong understanding of weapons and related systems
  • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions in uncertain situations
  • Excellent organizational and written communication skills
  • Project management planning and presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team executing R&D projects within the Expendables Operating Unit
  • Conceive, develop, demonstrate, and transition technologies in expendable air-breathing weapons domain
  • Provide technical direction and leadership to funded and contracted activities
  • Serve as technical authority for the Operating Unit
  • Define and control technical requirements with cross-project coordination
  • Interface with customers and company senior leadership
  • Represent NGAS in cross-company weapon-related activities
  • Collaborate with US Government technology development stakeholders
  • Ensure programs follow engineering principles, policies, and quality standards
  • Oversee technical performance measures within cost and schedule
  • Chair the Technical Review Board
  • Support program managers with risk and opportunity management
  • Support weapon mission engineering, design, and cost trades
  • Provide mentoring in systems engineering principles, tools, and techniques

Job description

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team executing research and development projects within the Expendables Operating Unit
  • Conceive, develop, demonstrate, and transition technologies and capabilities in the expendable air-breathing weapons domain
  • Provide technical direction and leadership to internally funded and contracted activities
  • Serve as technical authority for the Operating Unit
  • Define and control technical requirements and ensure technical coordination and horizontal integration across projects
  • Serve as principal technical interface with customers and company senior leadership
  • Represent the NGAS sector in cross-company weapon-related technical activities
  • Collaborate with US Government technology development stakeholders
  • Ensure programs follow sound engineering principles, company policies, procedures, and quality standards
  • Oversee technical performance measures within allocated cost and schedule resources
  • Chair the Technical Review Board
  • Support program managers with risk and opportunity management, including ownership of technical-performance risks
  • Support weapon mission engineering, design, and cost trades
  • Provide technical leadership, direction, and mentoring in systems engineering principles, tools, and techniques
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 16 years related professional/military experience; OR Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 14 years related professional/military experience; OR Ph.D. in a related STEM discipline and 12 years related professional/military experience
  • Professional experience related to expendables, weapons, or high-speed air-breathing systems
  • Experience integrating multiple engineering specialties
  • Experience working across multiple Business Units within a company, with industry partners, and with the customer community
  • Active US Government Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation
  • Ability to obtain SAP and TS/SCI clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
  • Up to 25% travel required
  • Familiarity with US Government science & technology and/or acquisition customer community for weapons and expendable systems technologies
  • Experience across multiple phases of the program lifecycle, including business development, business acquisition, research & development, production, and sustainment
  • Experience as a Chief Engineer or technical lead planning and executing technical design and integration tasks on schedule, at cost, and achieving all technical requirements
  • Strong understanding of weapons and related systems, including mission systems, seekers, weapon data links, WOSA, GRA, warheads, platform integration, and mission engineering
  • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions in uncertain, ambiguous, or difficult situations
  • Excellent organizational and written communication skills
  • Project management planning and presentation skills
