Shipworker.com is recruiting on behalf of a leading vessel operator for a direct-hire Chief Engineer - ATB role in the United States. The position offers stable rotations, strong medical coverage, and top-tier pay for an experienced engineer aboard tugboats.

You will oversee propulsion systems, machinery, and electrical plants, maintain logs, and ensure compliance with MARPOL and USCG standards. The role requires hands-on leadership and collaboration with deck teams to support safe operations.

Qualifications

  • Valid Medical Certificate.
  • STCW not required.
  • Clean background.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain main propulsion engines, reduction gears, auxiliary diesel generators, and all associated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and major mechanical repairs in accordance with company safety management systems and regulatory standards (USCG, ABS).
  • Maintain accurate engineering logs, manage fuel and lube oil inventories, and oversee spare parts requisitioning.
  • Ensure strict adherence to environmental, safety, and pollution-prevention regulations (MARPOL, USCG guidelines) while underway and in port.
  • Supervise, mentor, and work collaboratively with engine department personnel.
  • Coordinate with deck department leadership to support safe cargo operations, ballasting, and vessel maneuvering.

In this role, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the vessel's propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, electrical plants, and onboard engineering equipment. Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted vessel operations and machinery reliability.
