Job description

Chief Engineer

Chief Engineer responsible for all areas of maintenance and overall management of the maintenance department. Ensures rooms are clean, functional, and compliant with safety regulations, and reacts to emergencies.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee general and preventive maintenance programs, performing much of the work internally.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance for safety, insurance and warranty purposes.
  • Budget and manage department expenses, including purchasing major parts and obtaining competitive bids for vendor work.
  • Ensure compliance with fire and health regulations, reporting discrepancies to the General Manager.
  • Supervise and direct all maintenance staff, including task supervision, staffing levels, training and dress code.
  • Stay current on safety policies and implement changes.
  • Collaborate with other hotel departments to promote teamwork.
  • Practice safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
  • Respond to guest inquiries and requests.
  • Report damage, mechanical problems, or missing equipment or items.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
