  • Oversee repair and maintenance program for all equipment.
  • Keep equipment in good operating condition and ensure timely repairs.
  • Track daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and inspections.
  • Maintain records of repairs and spare parts.
  • Requisition spare parts, fuel, lube, and water.
  • Monitor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on dredge and equipment.
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations.
  • Initiate corrective and preventative actions to meet goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and support safety/environment initiatives.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the management and oversight of the equipment owned and/or rented by the company. This position will manage the repair and maintenance program, equipment inventory and location, as well as the critical spares inventory.

This position reports to the Vessel Manger. On projects, this position also reports to project management, with respect to making decisions that are in the best interest to the company (fuel and servicing intervals, deliveries, non-critical repair scheduling, etc.).

  • Maintain inventory of all pieces of equipment, and their locations, at all times
  • Manage and oversee the repair and maintenance program for all equipment
  • Maintain all equipment in good operating condition and ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner
  • Track daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and inspections
  • Maintain record of repair
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts
  • Requisition spare parts and supplies
  • Track and requisition fuel, lube, and water
  • Monitor all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components on the dredge and support equipment
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations, regarding equipment condition and interface
  • Initiate corrective and preventative actions to ensure goals are met
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The employee must have:

  • Strong trouble shooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to comply with safety rules and regulations.

  • Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.
  • Must be reliable and motivated.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC.
  • Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment, tools, and devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results driven.

PREFERRED SKILLS

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, Site Administrators must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
  • Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs. Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
