Job summary

Callan Marine Ltd. seeks a skilled Electrical Technician to support dredge operations by installing, debugging, and repairing EIA systems. You will report to the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation Manager and work across electrical, instrumentation, and automation subsystems.

The role requires experience in electrical field, ability to read wiring diagrams, and willingness to travel/relocate to dredge sites. On-site work in Galveston, TX with safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with using Electrical Test Equipment such as high voltage testers, multi-meters, meggers, and calibrators.
  • I&E Certification/Degree highly preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical wiring schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Support the dredge with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation (EIA) system.
  • Work under the supervision of the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation Manager.
  • Perform electrical, instrumentation, and automation tasks across motor controls, sensors, PLC and related components.

Role and Responsibilities

This position supports the dredge with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation (EIA) system.

This position will be under the direct supervision of the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation Manager.

  • Electrical system includes installation, troubleshooting, the repair of AC/DC and synchronous motors, MCC’s switchgears, controls, fault protection relays, breakers, and transformers.
  • Instrumentation system includes installation, troubleshooting, and repair of Instrumentation that includes Pressure Transmitters, flow meters, level transducers, RTD/Thermocouple temperature sensors, light switches, proximity switches, encoders, etc.
  • Automation systems include the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of PLC and computer systems, network switches, and any other related components.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

The employee must have:

  • Familiarity with using Electrical Test Equipment such as high voltage testers, multi-meters, meggers, and calibrators.
  • I&E Certification/Degree highly preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical wiring schematics.
  • Willingness to fill in as a relief Electrician on dredges.
  • Must be willing to travel to dredges.
  • 3 or more years’ experience in the electrical field.
  • Must be able to read electrical drawings (Instrumentation)
  • Be willing to live in Galveston or willing to relocate.
  • Must be reliable and motivated.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results driven.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, the employee must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
  • Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.
  • Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
