Chief Electrical Estimator

Location: Indianapolis, IN; Denver, CO; or Charlotte, NC (this is not a remote position).

Summary

The Chief Electrical Estimator directs the estimating department, establishes technical standards and procedures, and is responsible for training and staffing the department.

Essential Functions
  • Management
    • Provide ongoing supervision and accountability for estimating processes.
    • Enforce company policies and HR guidelines.
    • Assess estimating personnel for qualifications, performance, and compensation.
  • Accountability
    • Maintain responsibility for estimating outputs and quality.
  • Leadership
    • Promote and reinforce core values.
    • Build collaborative, solution‑oriented relationships with project management, superintendents, coordination, HR, engineering, and design directors.
  • Training
    • Communicate and collaborate with customers about RFPs and bid proposal processes.
    • Manage customer expectations, review RFI and question documents.
    • Negotiate with vendor partners, manufacturers, distributors, and subcontractors.
    • Execute bid proposal follow‑up strategies and bid results.
Estimating Overview
  • Execute all estimating processes and personnel.
  • Strategize new bid opportunities with business development, project managers, and account managers.
  • Lead and organize bid estimate strategy planning sessions.
  • Maintain quality control of estimating processes.
  • Assign tasks based on personnel experience.
  • Develop and monitor preliminary and final scope price proposals.
  • Supervise bid documentation, including RFPs, drawings, specifications, and vendor documents.
  • Supervise subcontractor and vendor quotations and preliminary submittals.
  • Ensure compliance with local authority, utility, and state requirements.
  • Review estimates and project deliverables.
  • Provide oversight and perform control takeoff estimates and change order pricing.
  • Update bid tracking documentation and inform senior leadership of status.

Qualifications & Competencies
  • 10 years of electrical industry estimating experience.
  • Minimum 1 Master’s electrical license.
  • Effective interdepartmental coordination.
  • Electrical industry expertise and general knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and electrical theory.
  • Proficiency in reading construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Experience in electrical equipment and system layout.
  • Expertise in design and engineering concepts, including one‑line diagrams, load calculations, feeders, and branch circuit analysis.

Working Environment and Physical Demands
