Job summary

Northwestern Medicine's Diagnostic Medical Physics leadership role oversees strategy, operations, and clinical physics across NM HealthCare; leads a team of physicists and assistants in imaging modalities including radiography, CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and mammography.

The position directs the DMP Residency Program, ensures accreditation and safety, and collaborates with modality leaders to optimize protocols, dosimetry, and staff training across NMHC.

Qualifications

• Master of Science degree (or higher) in Medical Physics or a related field.
• DIS registration or eligibility for Diagnostic Imaging Specialist with IEMA-OHS, incl. Mammography; DIS within 3 months.
• ABR or ABMP certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics or related categories.
• Minimum 5 years of clinical diagnostic medical physics experience in a complex healthcare environment.
• Preferred CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics residency program.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and mentor DMP personnel and NMHC trainees; ensure competencies.
• Manage daily operations, finances, and HR for DMP.
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures for DMP services.
• Balance physicist portfolios and staffing for appropriate load.
• Ensure quality, accreditation, and regulatory compliance across imaging modalities.
• Provide management oversight of the MRI Safety Committee with Radiology.
• Oversee the DMP Residency program including recruitment and CAMPEP compliance.
• Collaborate to optimize imaging protocols and patient dosimetry; drive technology adoption.
• Coordinate with Planning for renovations and future DMP needs.
• Maintain active clinical practice; support shielding design, dosimetry, submissions, inspections.
• Partner with Radiation Safety to ensure staff and patient safety.
• Participate in the systemwide NMHC Radiation Safety Committee.
