Job summary

Humboldt County Sheriff's Office seeks an experienced leader to serve as Undersheriff/Assistant to the Sheriff, overseeing patrol and investigations and directing department operations. The role focuses on staffing, budgeting and ensuring service delivery in alignment with sheriff’s goals.

Responsibilities include policy development, staff supervision, and liaison with courts and other agencies. A Nevada POST Supervisor certificate is required, with extensive law enforcement leadership

Qualifications

• Knowledge of current methods, practices and techniques of law enforcement and detention facility administration.
• Ability to supervise staff, plan and evaluate work, and work under pressure.
• Familiarity with budgeting, laws, and court procedures.

Responsibilities

• Develops, evaluates and implements policies and procedures for the division to meet Sheriff’s goals.
• Manages daily operation and provides direction to subordinate managers and staff.
• Estimates budget needs and monitors expenditures for compliance.
• Directs staff, trains personnel, and handles disciplinary actions as needed.
• Organizes staff schedules and coordinates coverage for cases and projects.
• Prepares reports for government agencies and officials.
• Maintains order and security within the detention facility.
• Performs patrol functions, investigates crimes and enforces safety regulations.
