Job summary

County of Humboldt seeks an experienced Deputy County Counsel to represent the County in a broad range of legal matters and provide counsel to the Board of Supervisors, County management, and commissions. Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil and administrative law and procedures.
• Skills in researching, investigating and formulating legal opinions.
• Ability to present facts and legal arguments clearly and persuasively.
• Understanding of judicial procedures and evidence rules.
• Familiarity with state and federal laws affecting county operations.
• Knowledge of public official responsibilities and county agency structure.

Responsibilities

• Advise county departments and management on duties, powers and obligations.
• Handle a range of legal work including juvenile, child welfare, criminal, and mental health.
• Research legal issues and prepare opinions, contracts and ordinances.
• Prepare and try routine and complex cases and represent the County in hearings.
• Direct or assist other attorneys and provide training as needed.
• Attend meetings to provide legal counsel on various matters.
