Job summary

The City of Valparaiso, IN is seeking a Chief Deputy Engineer to serve as a key leader within the Engineering Department. This role provides administrative, managerial, and professional engineering support to the Engineering Director, and oversees planning, design, and project delivery for stormwater and capital improvements.

Responsibilities include leading capital programs for roads and drainage, supervising staff, coordinating with consultants and regulatory agencies, presenting to boards,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
• Minimum four years' civil engineering design/management experience.
• PE license in Indiana preferred.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead capital planning and management for stormwater and roadway assets.
• Design and oversee projects involving roads, sewers, water mains, and drainage.
• Supervise staff including training, goal setting, and performance reviews.
• Coordinate with consultants and contractors on capital improvement projects.
• Present at Board, Commission, and Traffic and Safety Committee meetings.
• Perform field inspections and enforce code compliance as needed.
• Collaborate with survey and GIS teams for data collection and analysis.
• Coordinate with IDEM, DNR, and ACOE regulatory agencies.
• Identify and pursue grant funding opportunities.
• Support ADA Transition Plan development and maintenance.
