Job summary

Code and Theory, LLC seeks a Technical Director to own the vision, architecture, and delivery of our data platform and engineering organization. You will shape technical strategy, design scalable data systems, and lead a team to enable analytics, predictive models, and generative AI across the agency and clients.

The role requires 10+ years in data engineering with 3+ years leading teams, deep Python/SQL fluency, cloud platform judgment, and a proven ability to align technology with business

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data engineering or adjacent disciplines, including 3+ years leading teams or technical organizations.
• Proven ability to set technical strategy and tie it to measurable business outcomes.
• Experience turning latent data lakes into data-driven product backends.

Responsibilities

• Own the vision, architecture, and roadmap for Code and Theory’s data platform and engineering org.
• Design and scale systems that collect, model, and activate data for analytics, models, and AI.
• Partner with leadership, clients, and ML teams to translate business strategy into platform development.
• Contribute to budget and roadmap decisions, prioritizing competing initiatives.
• Select and standardize cloud data platforms and tooling with strong technical judgment.
• Remain hands-on as an architect, setting standards for Python, SQL, and modern data workflows.
• Lead the adoption of AI-powered coding and AI-enabled workflows across the engineering org.
• Hire, mentor, and grow engineers and leads, shaping the data organization’s culture.
• Represent the data org to senior leadership and clients across a 50/50 Tech/Creative split.
• Balance client delivery with internal platform investment and oversee governance, privacy, and security practices.
