Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Director/Managing Director, Cyber AI to lead the cybersecurity organization’s AI strategy and program. This role defines direction for secure and responsible AI adoption, coordinating governance, investment, and operating models with enterprise objectives.

The position is 100% onsite in Columbus, OH or Austin, TX, reporting to senior leadership and building accountable, multidisciplinary teams to advance AI security across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of leadership experience in cybersecurity or technology.
• Experience leading complex programs or portfolios in a large, regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of AI, machine learning, and cybersecurity to guide strategy and investment.
• Ability to translate emerging technology risk and opportunity into clear executive direction, priorities, and outcomes.
• Executive communication skills and the ability to advise senior leaders, governance bodies, and technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Set and communicate the Cyber AI vision, strategy, priorities, and multi-year direction.
• Provide executive leadership across AI Security Operations and AI-enabled cybersecurity products and engineering.
• Align the portfolio to cybersecurity strategy, business priorities, regulatory expectations, and responsible AI principles.
• Establish accountability and operating boundaries across the Cyber AI program and escalation paths.
• Sponsor scalable security services that improve visibility, controls, and resilience for enterprise AI environments.
• Sponsor responsible AI-enabled cybersecurity capabilities that improve security effectiveness and efficiency.
• Guide investment, capacity, organizational design, and talent strategy based on demand and risk.
• Ensure the program produces credible leadership reporting, risk transparency, and outcome measures.
• Develop leaders and multidisciplinary teams with accountability, innovation, and engineering discipline.
• Represent cybersecurity in enterprise AI forums and advise on opportunities, constraints, and risk.
