Job summary

Yellowstone County is seeking a Chief Criminal Litigator to manage and direct attorneys handling felony, misdemeanor, and gross misdemeanor prosecutions within the County Attorney’s office. The role includes supervising casework, advising on legislative matters, and representing the County at hearings and appeals across the district.

The position requires a JD and at least four years of criminal litigation experience, with strong liaison skills to law enforcement, courts, and county government.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate and admission to the Montana State Bar.
• Minimum four years of criminal litigation experience, or equivalent.
• Experience advising and coordinating with law enforcement and county officials.

Responsibilities

• Represent and supervise casework at trial, appellate or sentence review levels.
• Prosecute felony and misdemeanor offenses in county courts and appeals.
• Appear at hearings, arraignments, and trials across the county as needed.
• Review files, interview witnesses, and liaise with law enforcement and the judiciary.
• Set policies for the county attorney’s office regarding relations with law enforcement.
