The El Defensor Chieftain is seeking a community-minded Editor to lead our newsroom. In this role, you will oversee every stage of the editorial process, covering local events and managing the production of the weekly newspaper.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field preferred.
• Prior experience in journalism, editing, or newsroom leadership.
• Strong writing, editing, proofreading skills.
• Experience with newspaper layout and design software required.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee editorial process while being the face of the newsroom.
• Cover local government meetings and community events.
• Research, write, edit, and proofread news content.
• Design and layout the weekly newspaper.
• Manage the newspaper's website and social media channels.
• Supervise newsroom staff and interns.
• Build relationships with community leaders and organizations.
