Job Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Business Development Officer to lead our global sales teams. This role will be pivotal in driving revenue growth, expanding our market presence worldwide, and upholding KGL’s leadership position in the publishing industry. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of strategic vision, creativity, and hands-on leadership experience, with a deep understanding of KGL’s markets. The successful candidate will have very strong collaboration skills allowing them to coordinate sales activities across multiple services, KGL business segments, and CJK Group companies.

About KGL: KnowledgeWorks Global, Ltd. (KGL) is a global enterprise empowering or clients’ knowledge dissemination mission by igniting transformation and breaking new ground in content solutions to for societies and publishers. We serve customers in several markets including STEM, scholarly communications, and educational / learning development. Our services include editorial office and peer review management, content development, copyediting and developmental editing, composition, online hosting, consulting services, institutional sales, market and association management services. KGL is one of five divisions of CJK Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the sales efforts to develop and executive global sales to achieve business objectives and revenue targets.
  • Leads and inspires sales teams to deliver high performance and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Coordinates sales efforts with members of the leadership team, business segment leaders, subject matter experts (SMEs), estimating and billing, and other CJK Group sales leaders.
  • Promotes cross selling among the KGL segments, as well as sister divisions within the CJK Group.
  • Identifies and pursues new market opportunities, partnerships, and customer segments across different markets, divisions, and content types.
  • Monitors and analyzes sales metrics, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Provides direct leadership to the sales team members and indirectly to the extended sales network of managers, SMEs, and specialists who support the overall sales efforts.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with key clients, partners, and industry stakeholders worldwide.
  • Develops consistent sales compensation programs, including commissions and/or bonuses for meeting sales goals.
  • Establishes a consistent and repeatable sales process and associated training.
  • Establishes and manages sales pipelines and reporting to ensure accurate forecasting and effective sales operations. Prepares and delivers regular reports on sales performance, projections, etc.
  • Establishes procedures and processes for the handling of contract renewals and provides monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on renewal performance.
  • Manages contract administration to ensure compliance with terms and conditions and mitigate risks.
  • Manages the budget for global sales activities, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of sales and marketing efforts with overall business strategy.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and market conditions in various service segments and regions to inform strategic decisions.
  • Represents the company at international industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience (MBA preferred).
  • Proven track record of success in senior sales roles, preferably within the global academic and/or learning content industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with experience leading global teams.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills as well as analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and CRM software.
  • Ability to manage time well and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience working in diverse cultural environments and understanding of global market dynamics.

Physical And Travel Requirements

  • Work is 100% remote, with frequent travel (including international) required.
  • General office environment with intensive computer work and extended us of the computer keyboard and mouse.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle and feel; and reach with hands and arms.
