Job summary

Napa County is actively seeking its next Chief Appraiser to join the Assessor Valuation Division within the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Department. The Chief Appraiser directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates valuation activities, including valuing and auditing real and personal property and overseeing complex appeals.

Qualifications

  • Five years of increasingly responsible property appraising or auditing experience including three years of supervisory responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in economics, civil engineering, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Possession of a Permanent Real Property Appraiser's Certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization.
  • Possession of an Advanced Real Property Appraiser's Certificate is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities of the Assessor Valuation Division.
  • Value and audit real and personal property and handle complex appraisals.
  • Oversee assessment appeals and provide advisory interpretation on complex valuations.
  • Lead division objectives, programs, policies, and procedures; may serve as Deputy Assessor when needed.
