Job summary

The Chronicle of Philanthropy is seeking a senior fundraising leader to drive foundation grants and major gifts. The Chief Development Officer will be a strategic partner to the CEO, CRO, and CCO, expanding philanthropic support while shaping a strong fundraising agenda and infrastructure.

The successful candidate will design and lead a comprehensive development program, cultivate foundations and major donors, and build systems to track gifts and measure impact across the organization.

Qualifications

10+ years in progressive development with foundation grants and major gifts.
Strategic partner to executive leadership and boards.
Exceptional written and verbal communication; authentic storyteller.
Experience building or scaling a development function.

Responsibilities

Design and implement a comprehensive development strategy, building on foundation grant seeking.
Expand the number of foundations supporting the Chronicle, including program and unrestricted funding.
Cultivate foundations and other supporters; build a philanthropic plan with a three-year horizon.
Oversee gift tracking, reporting, and donor communications with leadership teams.
Measure impact and drive fundraising progress; partner with earned-revenue teams.
