Job summary

Coastal Roots Farm, a nonprofit community farm and education center in Encinitas, CA, seeks a Chief Advancement Officer to lead fundraising strategy, major gifts, grants, and outreach.

The CAO will manage a diverse advancement team, strengthen CRM systems, and partner with the CEO to secure sustainable support through individuals, foundations, and government funding, while embracing innovation and AI-driven fundraising practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive fundraising experience including major gifts, grants, and team leadership.
• Proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward significant individual donors.
• Experience building comprehensive fundraising strategies across multiple giving channels.
• Knowledge of donor pipelines, moves management, and revenue forecasting.
• Strong fluency with AI and emerging technology for fundraising, research, writing, analysis, and workflow efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead fundraising strategy across individual giving, major gifts, foundations, corporate and government funding, annual giving, events, and campaigns.
• Personally manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects to cultivate and solicit.
• Partner with leadership on principal gift strategy and donor stewardship.
• Oversee advancement team operations, marketing, events, and CRM implementation.
• Develop and communicate fundraising reports, pipeline updates, and strategic recommendations.
