Job summary

IG North America, home to tastytrade, tastylive, and tastyfx, seeks a Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator / Database Engineer in Chicago. You will own health, performance, and durability of high‑throughput Postgres clusters across on‑prem VMs and Amazon RDS, with a hands‑on, collaboration‑driven approach.

The role covers migrations, incident response, and proactive tuning, with strong emphasis on backup, restoration, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Deep PostgreSQL expertise with query planning and EXPLAIN output.
• Experience tuning OLTP workloads and autovacuum settings.
• Experience with Patroni, backups, and RDS vs self‑managed Postgres.

Responsibilities

• Own performance for high‑volume OLTP Postgres workloads.
• Design, deploy, and operate Patroni clusters with failover testing.
• Manage backup/recovery program end‑to‑end with PITR and RTO/RPO.
• Review migrations in Rails/ActiveRecord and Java JDBC for N+1 issues.
• Build observability: metrics, slow queries, locks, capacity forecasting.
• Lead on‑call incidents and write postmortems and follow‑ups.
• Document runbooks, architecture decisions, and upgrade playbooks.
