Job summary

Cayuga Health is seeking a CHESS Nursing Assistant to join a multidisciplinary float pool at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. The role provides flexible support across Med/Surg, ICU, Behavioral Health, OB, and skilled nursing units based on demonstrated competency and organizational needs.

You will document vital signs, assist with procedures, and maintain CHESS competencies to unlock additional compensation through the PAT.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current NYS Certified Nursing Assistant certification at hire or ability to obtain NYS CNA certification within six months of hire as a condition of continued employment.
• Minimum of two years of acute care experience at Cayuga Medical Center.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple patient care environments and acquire and maintain specialized clinical and technical competencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide flexible nursing assistant support across assigned clinical areas, including Med/Surg, SSSU, Behavioral Services, ICU, Maternal Child Health/OB, and skilled nursing settings based on demonstrated competency and organizational need.
• Obtain and document vital signs and intake/output and promptly communicate changes in patient appearance, behavior, condition, or other clinical observations to the appropriate RN or clinical team member.
• Perform approved technical functions based on demonstrated competency, which may include phlebotomy, ECGs, telemetry monitoring, AvaSure monitoring, transfer center coordination, and other specialized clinical support.
• Provide sterile field and instrumentation support as an OB Scrub Technician when trained and competency-validated for the function.
• Reinforce established patient care, safety, and post-operative instructions within role scope and maintain required CHESS competencies through ongoing utilization and revalidation.
