Job summary

Togetherhood in New York City connects passionate educators with schools and communities in need of enrichment. We are seeking a Chess instructor to develop age-appropriate curricula for after-school programs and to lead weekly in-person classes with energy and expertise.

Terms can range from 6 weeks to 18 weeks, and instructors are paid per class (most classes are one hour). Ideal candidates are dynamic, student-focused and bring creativity to every session.

What You'll Do

As a member of our network, you will be matched with opportunities to teach Chess to K-12 students at schools, buildings, and communities across NYC. These teaching opportunities will be for terms that could last anywhere from 6 weeks to 18 weeks.

  • Develop age-appropriate Chess curriculum for after-school students
  • Lead weekly in-person classes with enthusiasm and expertise
  • Establish a well-structured and lively classroom that keeps students engaged
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and encouraging learning environment for students of varying skill levels
  • Build connections with students in a warm and inclusive environment
  • Track student growth and offer positive, helpful feedback
  • Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to teach
  • Create a memorable experience for the children in your class
Who You Are

A fun, enthusiastic, adaptable instructor, with experience teaching school age children, and who:

  • Has subject matter expertise in Chess
  • Has a passion and skill for building hands-on projects with kids
  • Has excitement, joy, and passion for both teaching kids and personal development/learning
  • Knows how to create a fun, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Brings your own voice and creativity to each class you teach
  • Is cooperative, supportive, flexible
  • Is dependable, proactive, and thrives when given autonomy … and also appreciates support and clear expectations
What To Expect
  • If your resume is a fit, we’ll reach out to set up a screening call on Google Meet
