Phoenix Children's is seeking a Chemo CPOE Informatics Pharmacist to lead implementation, optimization, and maintenance of chemotherapy CPOE systems in pediatric care. You will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and IT to ensure safe ordering, administration, and documentation of regimens.

This is a clinical informatics role reporting to the Manager, Pharmacy Systems and Solutions. Responsibilities include system design, testing, education, and process improvements to enhance patient safety

Position Summary

The Chemo CPOE Informatics Pharmacist is responsible for leading the implementation, optimization, and maintenance of chemotherapy Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) systems at Phoenix Children’s. This role requires a combination of expertise in clinical pharmacy, informatics, and pediatric oncology to ensure that CPOE systems are integrated effectively to support the safe and accurate ordering, administration, and documentation of chemotherapy regimens in pediatric patients. The Chemo CPOE Informatics Pharmacist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and information technology (IT) professionals, to improve clinical workflows and enhance patient safety. The role reports directly to and receives direct supervision for work activities from the Manager, Pharmacy Systems and Solutions while receiving direction from other pharmacy, physician and IT leaders.

Position Duties
  • Chemo CPOE System Implementation and Optimization
  • Contributes to the design, implementation, and maintenance of the chemotherapy CPOE system in collaboration with the IT department and clinical stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate representation of pediatric oncology protocols, dosing calculations, and drug interactions within the CPOE system.
  • Perform regular system updates, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure the system is aligned with current clinical practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct user testing, including identifying issues and solutions to ensure the smooth implementation of new software updates or features.
  • Clinical Support and Integration
  • Collaborate with pediatric oncologists, pharmacists, nurses, and other clinical staff to optimize chemotherapy order sets to ensure they meet best practices for pediatric patients.
  • Ensure proper dose adjustments and thorough monitoring for pediatric patients, considering factors such as age, weight, and renal function.
  • Review and analyze data to identify areas for improvement in chemotherapy ordering practices and propose enhancements to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Education and Training
  • Provide ongoing training and support to clinicians and staff on the use of the chemotherapy CPOE system.
  • Develop educational materials, user guides, and other resources to ensure proper system usage.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving system-related or user errors in real-time.
  • Quality and Safety
  • Monitor the safety of chemotherapy orders and ensure that best practices in pediatric oncology care are followed through the CPOE system.
  • Collaborate with quality improvement teams to identify and address any mediation errors or adverse events related to chemotherapy ordering.
  • Stay informed about changes in chemotherapy guidelines and pediatric oncology practices to update the CPOE system as necessary.
  • Collaboration with IT and Clinical Team
  • Work closely with the IT department to ensure system performance, troubleshoot issues, and prioritize enhancements or upgrades.
  • Provide input and recommendations for system improvement based on feedback from clinicians and ongoing clinical audits.
  • Research and Development
  • Participate in research projects or initiative related to chemotherapy medication management, CPOE systems or pediatric oncology.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and trends in health informatics to recommend innovations that could enhance pediatric chemotherapy care.
  • Maintains competency as a clinical staff pharmacist and is able to staff various shifts within the inpatient pharmacy or CCBD infusion centers.
  • Completes all department and hospital mandatory competencies as required.
  • Functions in a daily staff role when necessary.
  • Provides direct oversight and timely accurate verification of final product for all aseptic parenteral and non-parenteral medication preparation, dispensing and distribution in compliance with state, federal statutes, and hospital procedures.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
