Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Mid-level Chemical Technician to perform analytical and specialized work in conjunction with chemical analyses at a nuclear plant environment. The role includes instrument calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation to ensure data quality and safe operations.

The position requires an Associate degree in Chemistry or related field, plus two years of experience in the specialty and one year of related training.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent education or experience.
  • Two years' experience in the respective specialty, and 1 year of related technical training.
  • Successful completion of the Plant Technician Selection System (TECH) test is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical and specialized work activities, including analysis, instrument calibration, instrument maintenance, instrument troubleshooting, documentation and implementing corrective action for out of limits, and adversely trending data.
  • Conduct special tests, sampling operations, and analyses in accordance with standardized chemical and radiochemical analyses, temperatures, pressures and flows to the required accuracy.
  • Analyze data and calculate test results for reports and system chemistry, as needed based on analysis results, to maintain system chemistry in optimal conditions.
  • Perform calibration checks and calibration procedures for laboratory instruments, radiochemical instruments, and in-line process analyzers and document all checks and procedures as required.
  • Perform, or request (via plant work order process) preventive and corrective maintenance as needed.
