Job summary

University of Central Florida is seeking a Laboratory Coordinator I for its Department of Chemistry to support organic chemistry teaching labs. You will serve as the primary contact for lab operations, ensuring instructors, GTAs, and stockroom staff have the materials and equipment needed to meet learning goals.

The role emphasizes safety, inventory control, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders to maintain effective teaching labs and up-to-date instructional resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry or closely related field.
• Experience supporting teaching laboratories is preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety standards, EHS protocols, and hazardous chemical handling is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Instructors of Record (IoR) to obtain syllabi, materials, and equipment lists before each semester.
• Collaborate with instructors and colleagues to maintain inventory levels and adapt lab experiments as curricular needs evolve.
• Perform daily maintenance of teaching labs, preparation areas, and stockroom to ensure a safe learning environment.
• Set up labs daily with appropriate chemicals, supplies, and functioning equipment; monitor stockroom inventory and restock as needed.
• Facilitate pre-lab meetings with GTAs to review weekly objectives, safety hazards, and waste disposal procedures.
• Provide hands-on training and support to GTAs as needed; identify recurring lab challenges and establish best practices.
• Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations and coordinate hazardous waste pickups with EHS.
• Coordinate with Instrumentation Specialist to train and repair equipment; assist with troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Develop user guides for instrumentation as needed.
• Maintain continuity of teaching lab support during absences; provide training to student assistants; assist with special projects including lab decontamination.
