Job summary

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia seeks a Laboratory Research Professional to support evening undergraduate laboratory courses in organic and general chemistry, with additional support for upper-level biochemistry, analytical, and physical chemistry labs as needed.

You will join a team of three other lab coordinators to cover all instructional labs, ensuring proper safety and quality of lab sessions and assisting instructors in developing effective procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 3+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare chemistry instructional labs per course materials.
• Prepare chemical solutions, including buffer and acid/base solutions.
• Maintain and calibrate analytical instrumentation and equipment.
• Stockroom duties: glassware washing, chemical inventory control, waste management.
• Provide oversight during laboratory sessions and enforce safety practices.
• Assist in training undergraduate instructional assistants and graduate teaching assistants.
