Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. seeks a Chemistry adjunct faculty member to teach part-time at Sinclair Community College, supporting transfer-focused chemistry courses and general education science requirements at multiple Ohio locations.

Starting pay is $1,046 per credit hour. A master’s degree in chemistry (or a master's with 18 graduate credit hours in the content) and prior teaching experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department.
• Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
• Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections.
• Employ teaching strategies and use instructional technology when appropriate.
• Modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
• Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success.
• Evaluate and return student work promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress.
• Submit final grade rosters by deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Cannot exceed 12 credit hours per semester.

Position Summary

Sinclair offers an Associate of Science Chemistry Degree ( CHEE.S.AS) for students who are planning to transfer to a four-yearcollege or university to pursue a Bachelor’s degree program that requires two years of college chemistry. Our Chemistrycourses satisfy the General Education Science requirement for the Ohio TransferModule and the Ohio Transfer Assurance Guides for completion of A.A. and A.S. degree programs.

This position is open only to applicants who reside in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky, or who are able to perform work within one of these states. Sinclair Community College restrict part-time employment to approved states due to employment, tax, and benefits compliance requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

• Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department
• Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning
• Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department and divisional policies
• Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, use available instructional technology when appropriate
• Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student’s needs
• Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success
• Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learning
• Maintain accurate records of student progress
• Submit final grade rosters according to established deadlines
• Maintain confidentiality of student information
• Adjunct Faculty cannot be assigned to teach more than the maximum of 12 credit hours per semester

Requirements

• Minimum of a master’s degree in chemistry or a master’s degree with at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in the content area is required
• Evidence of successful prior teaching experience is preferred
• Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level
• Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work successfully in a culturally diverse college community
• Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction
