Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform and oversee routine and complex lab testing in alignment with CAP/JCAHO standards. The role includes equipment maintenance, quality control, education of staff and students, and inventory management.

Candidates should hold a CLS/MLS credential with NAACLS accreditation and may require on-call and weekend coverage. The position offers growth opportunities within a large health system in Virginia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CLS or related biological science with NAACLS CLS/MT certification.
• Preferred with five or more years of on-the-job training in a hospital lab.
• Must obtain MLS/MT certification within 6 months if hired.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests according to established procedures.
• Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment.
• Performs, documents quality control, and follows QA guidelines.
• Assists in educating and training laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
• Maintains laboratory supplies and inventory.
• May perform specimen collection and phlebotomy as applicable.
• Ensures accreditation standards (CAP, TJ, and others) are maintained.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
