Job summary

Ventura County Community College District is seeking an Instructional Lab Technician II – Chemistry to oversee the operation of a complex chemistry instructional laboratory at Oxnard College. The role includes preparing equipment, reagents, and chemicals for class demonstrations and experiments, and ensuring safe, compliant lab operations.

The candidate will manage stock, inventory, and loan records, and assist in budget preparation for the lab.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and two years of work experience in a field of specialty, preferably in an instructional setting.
Ability to supervise and maintain a chemistry instructional laboratory and oversee safety practices.
Proficient in preparing reagents, stock solutions, and handling chemicals for demonstrations and experiments.

Responsibilities

Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, reagents, chemicals, and other teaching aids for class demonstrations and experiments.
Order, receive, inspect, and inventory materials, chemicals, and laboratory equipment; ensure adequate stock for instructional use.
Maintain stock rooms, laboratories, and related areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition; oversee proper use of facilities and safe practices.
Prepare and issue materials and equipment for student use; monitor and maintain records of materials on loan to students and instructors.
Test, adjust, maintain, and perform minor repairs to apparatus and equipment; arrange major repairs as needed.
Assist in preparing the preliminary laboratory budget; monitor expenditures and project needs.
