Description of Work
The Food & Drug Protection Division (FDPD) has five sections: Food, Dairy, Feed, Drug, and Administrative Services. It also provides analytical support through three laboratory sections: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Microbiology. The division ensures the safety and labeling accuracy of foods, drugs, livestock feeds, fertilizers, and medical devices.
This position is in the Inorganic Chemistry Section, specifically within the Core Analytical Laboratory, analyzing minerals in fertilizer, feed, and forage samples using techniques like ICP-OES, AAS, and others. The lab supports North Carolina farmers and regulatory agencies.
Primary job functions include:
Additional responsibilities may include quality assurance tasks, equipment maintenance, and training.
Work involves handling acids, bases, solvents, and allergenic matrices such as grass, hay, and nuts. Safety training and hazard assessments are provided.
Qualifications include:
Employment may require passing a respirator medical and fit test.

Minimum education and experience:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.
